After the tragic murder of her daughter, Francesca Harris-Scarborough, on April 9, 2020, her world was shattered. The unimaginable grief and pain propelled her towards a new assignment and a deeper calling from God to turn her pain into power, and the nonprofit Cry Loud, Spare Not, Speak Up, Inc. was born in 2021. Cry Loud, a domestic violence awareness organization, aims to help women recognize their worth.

In 2025, the Girls Empowered to Minister and Serve (G.E.M.S.) was born. In March of 2025, Shirley Scarborough released her memoir, Shattered But Not Destroyed: A Mother’s Journey from Heartbreak to Hope.
